Free Spirited Portland Destination Wedding

lia-jorge-sneak-1.jpg

This is the story of Lia & Jorge and their fierce, tender love for one another. (Words stolen from their more eloquent friend and officiant, Benjamin.) These two live in Chicago, work in Chicago, love in Chicago- and play in Portland. For their adult years, Portland, Oregon has been a kind of soul country, a spiritual hometown and a genuine place of connection for Lia and Jorge.

When Lia first approached me about creating the photographs for her and "Bear" to celebrate their engagement and then their wedding, I knew without a doubt that this was something I wanted (needed?) to be apart of. From connecting over a love of exquisite florals (HELLO SELVA FLORAL DESIGN) to mutually drooling over Grace Loves Lace and floral groom's ties... Lia's wedding day is packed with aesthetic details that express so well that spirit and lifestyle of the two individuals who officially joined their lives on May 25, 2018. If we're being honest, these two have been sharing the whole of their lives for years.

There's a lot here, and it's easy to miss some of the more delicate, natural touches... be sure to find the groom's wristwatch, the bridesmaids' living floral jewelry pieces, the bride's flower-bedecked hat, the drop-dead gorgeous floral infinity arch and the huge, bacchanalian charcuterie spread at cocktail hour. Not to mention the array of velvet chairs and chaise and stunning sweeps of cafe lights through the reception...

Adventurous Oregon Wilderness Anniversary

Grant & Alicia married in Oklahoma in 2016. I was there- to celebrate with drinks (not cameras!) in hand, dancing with my cousins... and all the little girls at their wedding. (Do you want to build a snowman?)

Fast forward... these two have moved to Oregon, where their wanderlust and love of the wide wild world thrives and Alicia works for a television station as an anchor and reporter. To celebrate their new adventure, Alicia and Grant joined me in the Columbia River Gorge in their wedding best for a wonderful, waterfall-braving anniversary session at Latourell Falls.

Lifestyle Edit: Wheaton, IL

I've known Kara for the past year and a handful of months. She's a graphic designer with a sharp eye for style in any medium, and someone I've come to trust when seeking input about art, design and personal philosophies of visual communication. Whether it's wedding photography or mixed media design, Kara is a spirit level.

Last month I had an engagement session reschedule because of impending rain, but had rolls of Portra from the previous night's session that had to be shipped that afternoon to photovision for processing. This series of events left me with half of roll of Portra 400 unexposed. 18 frames of film is far too valuable to not use. Enter Kara.

Turns out these are some of my personal favorites of the fine art film portraits I've created this summer, even if they were shot within two minutes outside a Starbucks.

Vintage Fine Art Luxury Hotel Boudoir

This lovely bridal boudoir series was a dream collaboration with award-winning bridal makeup artist Carly Pribich, talented Chicago Gold Coast stylist Krista of KMarie Hair Studio and Eva's Floral Wonders of Geneva, IL. The vintage lingerie featured was selected from the model's personal curated collection and wedding hair accessories provided by Hair Comes the Bride. PhotoVision processed these boudoir photographs, created using Kodak Portra 160 and Portra 400 film.

True Grace Photography bridal boudoir sessions are inspired by quiet confidence, honesty, personality and the strength and loveliness of femininity.

Special thanks to model, R, for sharing her figure, face, energy and vintage lingerie to expand and elevate the vision of this boudoir collaboration.
