In October I had the opportunity to travel with Rosalia and Jorge to create a series of photographs celebrating their recent engagement as well as a city they have come to love together. Portland, Oregon, does keep things weird- and wonderful. As a photographer, the vibrant colors of the Alberta Arts District and unique balance of light and shadow was a must-have location for these two creatives.
During the course of our adventure to the Pacific Northwest, we visited three other locations: Multnomah Falls, the International Rose Test Garden and Cannon Beach. Each location afforded such different personality and mood that I've decided to share each location as its own chapter.
Due to the atmosphere and style of this location as well as Rosalia & Jorge, I decided to shoot everything on 35mm Kodak Portra 160 and 400 using a Canon Eos 1-V. Thanks to Indie Film Lab for crushing it in the development and scanning process, as usual.
The Alberta Arts District is not only home to ever-changing Orphist murals, tattoo studios and independent boutiques but also terrific food. While staying in an Airbnb nearby, I had the opportunity to expand my foodie horizons with a scoop of strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper ice cream at Salt & Straw, a bowl of Boxer Ramen's tonkotsu, a Back to Eden lavender snickerdoodle and a greensicle from Sip Juice Cart (yes, it's in a renovated camper van- see photo below fyi).
Conclusion: Portland is a kaleidoscope.
